This week’s hledger task was to correct some of the account names in my hledger data file.
This came about after running the incomestatement command. I noticed some oddities that, while not affecting any numbers, needed attention. For example, there were two instances in account names where I opened a parenthesis but then didn’t close it. In another case, there were some account names capitalized when they shouldn’t have been. And then there was an instance of some repeated repeated wording. Like that.
Search-and-replace quickly took care of the above. Not substantive changes, but my reports read better now.
One additional note, in case you are preparing reports for others. If you have a misspelled word or other such defect in the text of the report, there are some people who, as a result, won’t believe your numbers. So, in such cases, it can be more than worth your time to make sure not only that your numbers are correct, but that your text is, too.
