It was time to use my new system for adding tags to travel-related transactions. That is, rather than adding the tags to each transaction as I enter it, I wait until a few weeks after the trip and add the tags all at once.
Here is the procedure: First, in Emacs I narrowed the view to include only the transactions that have “travel” as an account. Then I added a tag to the first transaction for the trip in question. Then I copied and pasted the tag to all the other transactions for the trip. Mostly painless!
Of course, you don’t have data just for the sake of having data. In my case, it was now time to share the results with my wife. I generated a report with aregister, selecting those transactions under the category of travel AND with the above tag. Once I was satisfied with the data, I ran the same command again but adding “-o mytrip.csv” to the end.
Next, I opened the mytrip.csv file in Excel. With a little prettifying, the file was ready for printing and sharing.
